Thanks again to everyone that filled out our horse trick training survey.
We found out exactly the sort of trick training you want.
Most of you wanted simple step-by-step instructions that you can print out and/or a training course with videos that show exactly how tricks are taught.
We had lots of responses from people that were having trouble getting their horse’s attention and were looking for something that would help their horses to focus. Trick training is perfect for that!
We also had a quite a few responses from people that had horses that couldn’t be ridden due to injuries or age and were looking for something to keep them occupied and “give them a job to do.” Trick training is perfect for that also!
The most popular tricks people wanted to teach their horses were Bowing and Lying Down.
So based on this information we have come up with the following plan:
We will work on a training course that will include printouts (you can take them with you when train your horse) and videos that show each step of teaching a horse a trick. We will be working with a new horse that hasn’t learnt any tricks and teach them first how to Bow and then Lying Down.
We will aim to release a video and printout once a fortnight (starting on 1st December).
To teach these tricks will take a few months because along the way we will be learning lots of simpler tricks that will help us build up to Bowing and Lying down.
Also quite a few of you told us that you don’t have much time to teach your horse tricks, so we’ve broken each trick into lots of small parts so that you only need to train your horse for a few minutes each day (horses also learn faster this way).
For those with injured or aged horses there will be lots of easier tricks for them to do along the way. We will also teach a ‘Simple Bow’ that looks really good and is perfect for those horses that can’t do the Full Bow.
So that’s the plan. Please let us know if you have any comments / ideas / or suggestion. We really appreciate your input.
